Followers of Jesus are asked to do a lot of good things, like treating people well, caring for those in need, and feeding those who are hungry. But there is one task that, at first glance, seems out of sync with the rest. Like the others, it\u2019s a task that requires great effort, but it is not an exertion of work. It is the pursuit of rest. Rest is too often overlooked in this busy achievement-based culture of our time. Rest might be a neglected practice in your own life, as it is for many people around you. People make up for missing rest by binging on naps, hangovers, or laziness. That\u2019s not what God wants for us. God wants us to observe the Sabbath, a day set aside in the rhythm of each week, that focuses the heart and mind on God and others. The Sabbath is a type of restoration that reorients the soul to be ready to serve in the good work of following Jesus in the six days that follow.<\/p>\n
