October 28

Wait

The Lord is good to those who depend on him,to those who search for him.So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.

LAMENTATIONS 3:25–26

Is there anything more difficult than waiting quietly?Probably. But by the way many of us act when we are supposed to be calm and watch time pass by,you would think we we were having a root canal done on our funny bone!(Not really sure what that means, but it sounds really uncomfortable!)

The phrase“good things come to those who wait”is not in the Bible. But it seems like it should be.It is a proverb, probably, that has been used by Heinz ketchup. You can’t rush a good thing.Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. What did you expect,it’s McDonald’s?The early bird gets the worm and then gets eaten by the eagle.

We want God’s salvation now,our worries to go away now, evil people to be gone now,our families to be blissful now,our health to be perfect now,and money to fall into our lap now.Perhaps we need to chill out right now,in this instant. We cannot afford to wait any longer. But it is good to wait on the Lord.

Pray for the Day:

Lord Jesus,I struggle to be willing to wait for you to act.Help me to trust you.Amen.
