April 16 – Ask God About His Day
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. “
JOH N 1 0 : 2 7
Have you ever had a one-sided relationship with someone who talked all of the time? It’s difficult and exhausting. But you love the person so you put up with him or her, just hoping for the day when the friendship becomes a bit more reciprocal, mutual, or friend-like. The truth is that God wants to chat with you. But like everyone else, you can be preoccupied to actually
have a conversation with him, too loud to commune. Oh, you probably “pray,” but you can be tempted to do all of the talking, using God like a paid psychologist or a call-in radio talk show host.
If you feel like prayer has been too much of a one-sided conversation, try paying attention to God. Ask him what’s going on with him. Ask God how he’s doing. Silence your life long enough and open your soul wide enough to hear what’s on God’s heart at that particular moment. In other words, be a friend to God. He’s been one to you. It’s not that he needs your friendship; rather, it’s that he wants it. Perhaps he has something he’d like to say to his friend.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, what’s going on? What would you like to do with me today?
