February 9 – Sing Praise
Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.
P S A L M 9 6 : 1 – 2
David didn’t have Beats by Dre or an iPhone packed with the latest songs by Imagine Dragons. How did he even survive? Seriously, how did this guy function without the constant stimulation of media continually rewiring his brain?
Well, David spent some time alone (note: time = days, weeks, months) shepherding flocks in the countryside. To pass his hours he learned to write songs, play compact instruments, and talk to God. He had sheep. And they made only one genre of music. (Except when they ate too much grass, then they made a second genre of music. A symphonic movement, you could say.)
David wrote songs of praise—dozens, and perhaps hundreds, of them. Even while he sheered wool and killed bears that attacked his flock, he became an accomplished poet, theologian, musician, and composer. He used his growing skills to turn his heart, again and again, to the Lord.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, help my mind and heart sing for you. Amen.
