March 3–Willingly
Work willingly at whatever you do,as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
CO LO S S I A N S 3:2 3
Have you ever been asked to do a job that you didn’t want to do?Of course you have.Perhaps it was mowing the lawn while your friends played outside.Perhaps it was finishing your homework while your favorite show was on.Or perhaps it was cleaning up someone else’s mess,or picking up your clothes,or acting polite when you were actually seething with frustration inside.
Whatever it was that you had to do,it didn’t kill you.(You’re reading this right now today because you are probably still alive.)It may have bugged you and made you feel a wee bit justified in letting whoever told you to do it that you were just a wee bit upset with them.Perhaps you huffed and puffed, perhaps you grumbled and complained,or perhaps you devised ways to get even.Unless the person or job was evil, the work you were asked to do was likely some sort of responsible service in one way or another. It probably served a purpose, even if mundane or routine,or unknown to you.It is God’s desire that we work willingly,as if we are working for God,not for people.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, give me a bigger capacity to serve than I have been known to show in the past.Let me see the work that I do,whatever it may be,as a service to you.Amen.
