February 4 – Be Peaceful
“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”
MAT T H EW 5 : 9
Peace is not passive. Where did that idea originate from anyway? Peace comes about through incredible strain and sacrifice. Ask the millions of people throughout history who have given their lives so that peace could stand.
There is a war in the world today against peace—ideologically, geographically, culturally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. There are powers and movements whose goal is the disruption and deterioration and destruction of true peace. It is into this fray that Jesus jumps. Like a vigilante of justice, Jesus disarms evil. His effort costs him his life. But it is a cost he
decided was worth the outcome.
Jesus is the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), and he exerts himself so that people can have “peace with God” (Romans 5:1). Jesus fought and died to give this world a powerful, proactive peace. When people embrace him, and when they choose to become peacemakers themselves, all of heaven celebrates.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, don’t let me cheat the steps. Challenge me to become a peacemaker. Amen.
